Joplin KOA Journey Camping Cabin Review – Missouri (2024)
Want to know what it’s like to stay in a cabin at Joplin KOA Journey in Missouri? We’ve got you covered with everything we experienced during our stay!
When we were moving from Southern California to Dayton, Ohio, we had a 16 foot moving truck towing our car all the way across the country.
We thought that the best way to make this drive would be to stop at KOA’s each night along the way.
This way we’d have plenty of room for the truck, we could keep an eye on it, and we could save money on hotels.
In general, the KOA cabins tend to be less than $100 a night, whereas many hotels after taxes, fees, and sometimes parking tend to be at least $150 a night.
The very first night of our drive, we stopped at the Kingman KOA Journey and stayed in a camping cabin.
The second night we stopped at the Tucumcari/Route 66 KOA Journey in New Mexico and staying in a camping cabin there as well.
Our final night on the road we stayed at Joplin KOA Journey in a camping cabin.
You can see a full walk-through of our cabin in this video on our YouTube Channel!

Joplin KOA Journey Camping Cabin Review
We checked in late in the evening since we were driving from New Mexico, so they left a welcome packet at the after hours desk for us.
It was pretty straight forward.
There’s a map that shows you the cabin number that also includes all the codes to the bathrooms and other amenities you might need.
The internet information is in there as well.
So if you’re arriving after the check-in desk is closed, there is no need to worry.
Everything you need to know is right there!
Cabin Amenities
The cabin was already heated when we arrived, but there was an additional space heater we were able to plug in closer to the bed.
It was the middle of February when we stayed here, so that was a great perk that they already had all of this set up for us.
This cabin came with a mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and tv, which the other places we stayed didn’t always have.
The Kingman KOA just had the mini fridge and microwave, while the Tucumcari KOA just had the tv.
Just outside of the cabin is a grill, picnic table, and a catch and release fishing pond.
It had just snowed when we stayed here, so we didn’t get to take advantage of the outdoor amenities, but we loved the view of having the fishing pond just outside our front door.

Bedding
With these cabins, the beds do not come with any linens.
There is a queen sized bed and a set of bunk beds, so it’s perfect for family getaways too.
What we decided to do was bring two sleeping bags.
One to lay on and the other as a blanket.
Then we had our regular pillows that we use at home.
Since we were only staying for one night this seemed much easier than bringing a fitted sheet, top sheet, and comforter.
The bed was on the firmer side, which we like, so I slept soundly the whole night.
There’s also a small shelf next to the bed that can be used as a nightstand for your phone and anything else you want nearby.
Restrooms at the KOA
Our cabin was in the back of the KOA while the restrooms were in the front of the KOA.
It’s not a huge campground, so the walk is probably a minute or less, but it was the farthest distance of the 3 KOAs we stayed at on this trip.
Since the cabins don’t have any bathrooms, you’ll have to use the bath house for toilets and showers.
The mens and womens restrooms are separate.
Since no one else was here during our visit I thought I’d get some pictures of what the showers are like.
There are 3 separate shower stalls that have a place to put your stuff down and then the shower is further back.
The sinks have enough space to do your full night time or morning getting ready routine.
There are also 3 toilets in the restroom.
The stalls are all larger than normal so if you’re just changing or something you don’t have to use up one of the showers.
Overall Thoughts
Overall, it’s a really nice KOA with all the amenities you would need for staying in the camping cabins or in a tent.
We liked that this cabin had the mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, and tv, which was a lot more than the other campgrounds had.
Fun Things To Do In Missouri
Below are our favorite places we’ve explored all over Missouri that we highly recommend.
The Best Gateway Arch National Park One Day Itinerary
Did you know the Gateway Arch in St. Louis is a national park now?
It’s an easy 2-3 hour visit to explore the museum, go up to the top of the arch, and enjoy a stroll around the park.
The Best Hidden Gems In Branson, Missouri
If you’ve never been, Branson is a great vacation spot.
There’s a little bit of everything here, including one of our favorite theme parks, Silver Dollar City.
We have a great, affordable timeshare here at The Suites at Fall Creek that you don’t have to be a timeshare owner to stay at!
Conclusion: Joplin KOA Journey Camping Cabin Review
We enjoyed a short stay in the camping cabins at Joplin KOA Journey on our road trip to Ohio.
It had everything we needed, and our check in and check out process was seamless.
It would definitely be a great place to stay in the warmer months when you can enjoy the fishing pond literally steps away from the cabin.
