Kingman KOA Journey Camping Cabin Review (2024)
Want to know what it’s like to stay in a camping cabin at Kingman KOA Journey? We’ve got you covered with everything we experienced during our stay!
When we were moving from Southern California to Dayton, Ohio, we had a 16 foot moving truck towing our car all the way across the country.
We thought that the best way to make this drive would be to stop at KOA’s each night along the way.
This way we’d have plenty of room for the truck, we could keep an eye on it, and we could save money on hotels.
In general, the KOA cabins tend to be less than $100 a night, whereas many hotels after taxes, fees, and sometimes parking tend to be at least $150 a night.
The very first night of our drive, we stopped at the Kingman KOA Journey and stayed in a camping cabin.
For the rest of our drive we stayed at Tucumcari/Route 66 KOA Journey in New Mexico and Joplin KOA Journey in Missouri.

Kingman KOA Journey Cabin Review
We checked in late in the evening since we were driving in from Anaheim, so they left a welcome packet at the after hours desk for us.
It was pretty straight forward.
There’s a map that shows you the cabin number that also includes all the codes to the bathrooms and other amenities.
The internet information is in there as well.
So if you’re arriving after the check-in desk is closed, there is no need to worry.
Location
Our cabin was right in front, so we just had to drive the truck through and pull it up to the exit.
This cabin is also directly across from the bathrooms, so getting ready for bed and getting ready in the morning were easy tasks.
It was February when we stayed here, so it was in the 30s or 40s for the 10 hours or so we were there, so being close was great.
Cabin Amenities
The cabin was already heated when we arrived, but there was an additional space heater we were able to plug in closer to the bed.
On the front porch there is a swing and just off to the side is an outdoor grill.
This cabin also had a microwave and mini fridge.
Bedding
With these cabins, the beds do not come with any linens.
There is a queen sized bed and a set of bunk beds, so it’s perfect for family getaways too.
What we decided to do was bring two sleeping bags.
One to lay on and the other as a blanket.
Then we had our regular pillows that we use at home.
The bed was on the firmer side, which we like, so I slept soundly the whole night.
There’s also a small shelf next to the bed that can be used as a nightstand for your phone and anything else you want nearby.

Where To Eat In Kingman
Kingman has a little bit of everything when it comes to restaurants.
We personally love to stop at In N Out when we’re driving through Kingman since it’s one of a few places you can get it outside of California.
It’s right off the freeway, so it’s a convenient place to eat too.
My favorite order is just a single cheeseburger with grilled onions.
JP usually goes for the double and gets a strawberry shake too.
If you’ve never been, you should also try the animal style fries.
When I moved out to California in 2017 I was driving by myself and stopped at the Cracker Barrel there.
I ordered the chicken and dumplings with 2 sides of dumplings so the waitress called me “dumpling” the whole time.
Fun Things To Do In Arizona
We’ve driven through Arizona many times on our road trips to Ohio and Florida.
We have also taken weekend getaways through Arizona a few times as well.
Some of our favorite things to do are the national parks and the sites around Tucson and Phoenix.
If you’re visiting the Phoenix area, outside of town is the Harrah’s Ak-Chin Resort and Casino, which is perfect for a weekend stay.
Petrified Forest National Park One Day Itinerary
Petrified Forest National Park is in eastern Arizona, along Route 66, near Holbrook.
The park is best visited by driving the scenic route through the north side and then the south side.
There are several trails where you can pull over and hike amongst the petrified wood.
It’s not what you would expect at all, but it is still cool to see.
Grand Canyon National Park Sunrise Itinerary
Grand Canyon National Park is just a little further down Route 66 from Petrified Forest National Park.
We visited during this same drive home to California from Ohio that we stopped at Petrified Forest.
It was January and a snowstorm blew in overnight.
The snow made it difficult to do anything but enjoy the sunrise, but it was worth it.
It’s a completely different Grand Canyon experience than you’d expect and I highly recommend doing this at least once.

Saguaro National Park One Day Itinerary
Saguaro National Park is in southern Arizona, spanning across all of Tucson.
It’s made up of scenic drives, nature trails, and overlooks with views all over the city.
If you’re able to, I recommend staying at Varsity Clubs of America when you visit Tucson.
Tombstone Day Trip Itinerary
Tombstone is the town too tough to die.
You may know it from the mega blockbuster back in the early 90s.
There are so many cool things to do here from dining in a local saloon, antique shopping, wine tasting, re-enactments of the OK Corral, and tons more.
We loved it so much we actually went twice in the same trip!
Elgin and Sonoita Wine Tasting Guide
Just south of Tucson is the Elgin and Sonoita wine tasting region.
We’ve visited wine regions all over the US and let me tell you, we like it better than Napa!
Our favorite wine we’ve ever tried was here – a red wine infused with habanero peppers.
I don’t do anything spicy at all, but this wine gets the flavor of the peppers without the burn of the spice.
Best Affordable Attractions Near Tucson
There were so many places we went in Tucson that we decided to put them all together in one post.

Tucson is a designated UNESCO City of Gastronomy.
The soil of Tucson has been used to grow food for over 10,000 years continuously.
There are different designations within UNESCO that allow specific restaurants to be recognized.
We decided to try a variety of them because local cuisine is a huge part of travel.
How to Spend a Weekend in Phoenix and Scottsdale
We’ve had great weekend getaways to the Phoenix and Scottsdale area.
I highly recommend Old Town Scottsdale for shopping, dining, escape rooms, and wine tasting.
There are also a couple Top Golf locations here and a fun immersive art museum.
Try to stay at the Legacy Golf Resort just south of town!
