Want to know what it’s like to stay at the Martinique New York on Broadway, a Curio Collection hotel by Hilton?

I recently spent a week at the Martinique, a boutique Hilton hotel in New York City.

It’s blocks away from Madison Square Garden and the train station, making it a very convenient place to stay if you’re taking the train in, which is what I did.

The Martinique also borders Koreatown and is just around the corner from the Empire State Building and the New York Public Library.

I enjoyed a leisurely stroll past all these tourist hotspots when I stayed here.

Martinique New York on Broadway Review

Upon arrival, the lobby of this hotel is beautiful.

It feels very upscale with valet, greeters, chandeliers, fine dining, and tons of seating.

My check in process was very quick and easy, even with only a couple front desk agents available.

Lobby

The lobby has a restaurant, coffee bar, seating areas, and a front desk area all the way in the back.

When I checked in it was pretty empty, but the whole rest of my stay it was always bustling.

There seemed to be a lot of larger groups and a lot of international family travelers here.

There are a handful of couches and chairs where you can hang out if you’re waiting for your room to be ready or if you just want to work out in the lobby and not hiding away in your room.

Some of the chairs and couches are near outlets if you need them.

Some of the seating areas are tucked away in little nooks, but the noise of the lobby carries through the whole area, so there’s not really a quiet place out here to work.

Valet

When you arrive at the hotel, there is a cone that saves a parking spot for anyone loading or unloading their vehicle.

Valet is here to park your car if you’d like.

When I stayed here I was by myself, but at the end of the stay my husband drove in to pick me up, so he had a spot saved to pull in while I loaded the car, and then we went on about our day.

Even though the picture below doesn’t have any people in it, this is a very busy walkway.

The Martinique is at the corner of Broadway and it is just around the corner from sites like Madison Square Garden and the Empire State Building, so there is always a ton of foot traffic.

Elevators

There are 2 small elevators just off of the back of the lobby.

I’m not sure how many stories the hotel is, but I think I was on something like the 6th or 8th floor.

The elevators aren’t super quick, but they also weren’t the slowest elevators either.

The inside was really nice and somewhat spacious.

I think they could fit 4-6 people with suitcases comfortably.

Inside the elevators there are signs that tell you which floors some of the more important amenities are on.

For example, you can see that the lower lobby level has the fitness center and vending machines.

The 2nd floor has the meeting and banquet rooms.

These elevators did not require a room key to access certain floors.

Deluxe Queen Room

The hallways are pretty small and narrow.

My room was near a corner, but it was also across from a housekeeping supply closet.

So while I didn’t really have neighbors making noise, I could hear housekeeping at all hours.

Living Area

The room is pretty small and compact, so I recommend this mainly for solo travelers.

It can be okay for couples as long as both of you can comfortably sleep in a queen bed.

My husband and I would be able to make this room work as long as we didn’t have too much stuff with us.

The work space was nice and comfortable and the tv was a good size for the size of the room.

The mini fridge also work nicely, but there is no microwave.

Bathroom

The bathroom had a tub and shower, which I was not expecting.

I thought for sure it would just be a shower.

It was very nice and clean and looks fairly new.

The main mirror was backlit, so it was great for putting on makeup.

It was somewhat of a tight squeeze to be in the bathroom, but for just one person it works.

Views

My view from my room looked out over the intersection the hotel was at.

It was always busy, but not particularly noisy.

I liked having a clear view of something rather than having a window looking at another building 2 feet away from me.

Pricing

I used the Hilton Friends and Family rate when I stayed here and it was $139.50 as the base rate for the night.

But, once all the taxes and fees were added, it came out to $217.68 for one night.

Here’s the breakdown of my bill:

  • Guest Room $139.50
  • Destination Charge $40
  • NY State Sales Tax 8.875% $3.55 (on the destination charge)
  • NYC Occupancy Tax 5.875% $2.35 (on the destination charge)
  • NYC Hotel Room Tax $2
  • NY State Hotel Room Tax $1.50
  • NY State Sales Tax 8.875% $12.38 (on the room charge)
  • NYC Occupancy Tax 5.875% $8.20 (on the room charge)

Plus, with my $15 daily food and beverage credit, I spent $23.20 at the Espresso Bar in the lobby, so $15 was taken off of that for my grand total of $217.68 for one night.

I had booked a split stay and was able to stay in my same room for the full stay.

For the rest of the stay, my base rate fluctuated between $133.50 and $128.50 depending on the night.

Basically, once all the taxes and fees were added up, I spent $852.57 to stay 4 nights in the Deluxe Queen room (about $213 per night).

It was BY FAR the cheapest Hilton hotel in all of Manhattan, so it’s really a steal for the area.

We typically spend less than $125 a night for lodging, but I knew with the location that would never be possible, and by the time my trip came around the rooms were much closer to $400 per night for new bookings.

Hotel Amenities

Being part of Hilton’s boutique collection, this hotel has some amenities that you can’t get at just any Hilton branded hotel.

The front desk and valet were very attentive and helpful with just about anything.

The hotel fees included free bike rentals for up to 4 people each day, which is a nice perk, but I chose to walk since that was easier.

Daily Food & Beverage Credit

When you stay here, you get a daily food & beverage credit as part of the hotel fees.

Mine was $15 per day, but I think this is something that may fluctuate depending on the specific rate you book.

One thing to note is that you must use it on each individual day of your stay if you want it to count.

You can just bulk buy everything on the first or last day.

Pictured below are some of the pastries and snacks at the Early Edition Espresso Bar in the lobby.

I highly recommend the cheddar cheese scone, handmade pressed granola bars, ham and cheese croissant, chocolate chip cookie, and the brownie.

As you can tell, I took full advantage of this perk every day.

You’re already being charged for it, so you might as well enjoy it!

I stopped by here each morning on my way out to my meetings to grab a snack for my walk and it was the perfect routine.

Overall Experience

I really loved the convenience of this hotel.

I chose this one because I was taking the Amtrak train into town and it was right around the corner from the train station.

It was also less than a 30 minute walk from where I had to attend work meetings right across from Rockefeller Plaza.

So it was centrally located, one of the most affordable Hilton’s in town, and it was just a beautiful hotel.

I was seriously so impressed.

I thought I was paying a lot of money just because the city is expensive, but they really delivered with the quality of the rooms, the common areas, and the overall service.

So if this feels like a little bit of a splurge, you’re really getting your money’s worth.

The Wrap-Up: Martinique New York on Broadway Review

If you’re looking for an affordable hotel in Manhattan, this is the place for you.

Take advantage of the daily food and beverage credit to grab a coffee and a pastry on your way out the door each morning.

Enjoy full service help from valet and the front desk agents and maybe you’ll even have a nice view like I did!

Remember that when staying in cities, they say that the higher the floor you’re on, the less street noise you’ll hear, so try to request that on your visit.
